German battery supplier AKASOL pushes new generation lithium battery

According to foreign media reports, after eight months of durability testing, AKASOL, a high-performance battery system supplier in Germany, claimed that its latest lithium battery module AKAMODULE (divided into 46Ah and 53Ah versions) can tolerate various types of Extreme conditions. The test results show that since the module uses a liquid-cooled design (developed internally), the core material is extremely uniform, and its battery life can be extended by up to 50% when compared with other manufacturers' specifications. If the battery is applied to a pure electric bus, the battery can continue to be used even after the mileage exceeds one million kilometers.

The lithium battery module is generally used under an environmental condition of 25° C. Due to its excellent performance, the battery module can still be used at a temperature limit of 50-55° C.

Björn Eberleh, Head of AKASOL Project Management, Test and Service Department, said: "Even if the 46Ah and 53Ah battery modules have undergone 8000 cycles and 3000 full load cycles respectively, the battery module's capacitance remains the same. It can maintain 80% of its initial capacity, even if only 30% of the residual power remains, the battery module can still operate, so the total number of full-load cycles should reach 15,000. Another result of the test is: a single battery Deterioration is evenly damaged and the result is satisfactory, which will significantly reduce the capacity loss on the assembly line, which means that the battery life can be delayed for a longer period of time.”

In an indoor test environment, AKASOL engineers tested both 46Ah and 53Ah battery modules under extreme conditions. In a 50-55°C and 100A constant load test environment, the battery pack can run for up to 1.5 years in full cycles. The difference in battery capacity, cell voltage, and internal resistance confirms battery experts' previous predictions. In some application areas, its performance will exceed expectations.

In fact, due to differences in battery production, various types of operation are not the same. When charging is performed in a specific energy storage device, the charging of each battery cell will become uneven. For this reason, the battery management system must ensure that the state of charge of each cell reaches the same level. In multi-cell batteries, this method of battery balance enables the entire system capacity to be fully utilized and has a longer service life. The integrated level of the battery module is extremely high, and the energy density of AKAMODULE is over 140 Wh/kg, which makes the vehicle longer and more durable.

AKAMODULE uses a water-glycol mixture as a coolant. Previously, the production of the module and the integration of the mixed liquor had been extremely complicated by the process, and later a new manufacturing method was found to simplify it, leading to a substantial reduction in the size of the battery.
